Victor Razgulin

Victor Razgulin was born in the ancient Russian town of Gorodets on the Volga River, a city known for its original folk art and temple frescoes. He began showing his work at the age of 18 and then attended Serov Art College in St. Petersburg, Russia. Since then he has continued to surround himself with his greatest influence and inspiration: the Russian landscape.

His art poetically floats from the most intimate of spaces of his familial home to the beautiful Russian landscapes of Pereslavl outside Moscow to the Crimean coastlines along the Black Sea.  Also known as the Russian Matisse, Razgulin’s portraits within intimate interior settings are contemporary expressions of a traditional style that typify elegance and modernity.

His compelling landscapes and interiors reflect his extensive travels throughout Russia, Central Asia, Europe, and the United States. These paintings are expressive, successful compositions of color and subject. Razgulin is a master of translating folk and naïve images of his beloved Russia into delectable, sophisticated paintings. The jewel-toned palette, the geometric patterns, and painterly surfaces merge with the subjects to express the artist’s perspective and understanding of our world.

Razgulin currently lives and works in Moscow, as well as in Pereslavl Zalessky along the ancient Golden Ring and Gursuf, Crimea by the Black Sea. In 2007, Razgulin was elected to full membership in the prestigious Russian Academy of Arts.
