Nenad Zaric

Nenad Zaric’s large-scale paintings reflect a personal, broody rumination on the Balkan’s tortured past both in regards to the trauma endured by the people and the physical alteration of the landscape. Zaric became aware of himself politically in the aftermath of the breakup of Yugoslavia, a period of political crisis in the 1980s which caused bitter inter-ethnic Yugoslavic wars which continued into the early 1990s. As a way to process the death and destruction he witnessed at such a young age, Zaric found solace through painting.
